It's About Time

If you’re like me, you have a family member, neighbor, work associate or friend that is capable of completing what seems to be an insurmountable number of activities each and every day.  The women who is capable of working 40+ hours per week while raising several children and teaching Pilates weekly at a local health club.  In addition to this she plays on a community volleyball team, has time for a regularly scheduled “girl’s night out” and still always seems to have time for her family, and the reoccurring weekend cookout or sports event gathering.  Despite all of the activities listed above this individual never seems overwhelmed or stressed. In fact, she is the opposite.  She seems to be in complete control, happy, very relaxed and always upbeat.

How is this humanly possible?  How is she so different than others and capable of so much?  After all she has the same 24hrs. per day available to her as I do.  The answer in many ways is obvious yet seems impossible to accomplish.  Over the years she has mastered time management.  She has learned to prioritize the activities in her life in terms of what is of least and most value.  The activities that have little or no value have been cast aside and eliminated and her time is spent on what truly matters to her the most.

Over the years I have met numerous individuals capable of accomplishing what I’ve described above and I’ve chosen to try and emulate them rather than be envious of them.  I’ve chosen to admire and acquire their capabilities.  Personally, I have decided to eliminate those activities in my daily life that are just “wasting time” and replace them with activities of high value to me.

The remarkable outcome of learning how to master your time is a lifetime of accomplishment.  Individuals with time management skills have a myriad of meaningful friendships, numerous career accomplishments and have acquired a long list of skills.

So, the next time you encounter an individual who has mastered their time management capabilities, chose to emulate that individual rather than envy that person.

Don’t you think it’s about time?
